Jesus & the Holy Spirit

Week 8 – What descended on Jesus when he was baptized? The Holy Spirit in the form of a dove, Luke 3:22
Luke 3:22 (NIV)

22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, in Christianity. God is one yet exists eternally in three Persons. The Trinity is God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son of God and the Holy Spirit. The title Son of God refers to the Deity of Jesus. It is Christ’s unique title. The Trinity is the way that God the Father has chosen to reveal himself to the world.

To be completely clear, God the Father has chosen how he chose to present himself to the world. Christians don’t worship three gods, rather it is the Lord God presenting himself in three persons. In Islam it is an incomplete or false understanding that Jesus Christ the Son of God was the result of a sexual relationship between God and Mary.

While the word Trinity doesn’t appear in the Bible it is simply a term to describe the three persons of which are also often referred to as the God Head. The central term to describe the nature of Allah is Twahid, which like the Trinity is not found in the Quran. It is rather a theological term to describe Allah.

Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him.”

Do you now have a better understanding of the Trinity and the Holy Spirit?
Personal Application: The Holy Spirit dwells in each Christian and provides direction, insight and power to live the Christian life as revealed in the Holy Bible.
