The Decision We All Must Make

Life is a series of choices

Every journey has a destination and is made up of steps, of choices, both large and small, to reach that destination.

The most important journey, the journey of our lives, has the greatest possible destination, to live with and share eternity with the Lord God Himself.

But how can mortal, unholy and sinful man ever reach such a destination with the immortal, holy and sinless Lord God?

What if the Lord God Himself has provided a way to do this? Not a way we could ever earn, but a way that He has provided to us as a gift– a gift, a choice, we are free to accept or reject?

Whatever we take into eternity is eternally ours. We are either cleansed from our sin and or it is eternally ours, and it will eternally separate us from the Lord God. But, if the Lord God has cleansed of our sin and forgiven us, then we can and will be eternally with Him.

So we ask as the Philippian jailer did, “What must I do to be saved?”

The decision, the choice, we are presented with is:

Do I want to accept God’s offer of forgiveness and salvation and eternal life with Him?
Do I accept it on the basis of what He has done through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus that makes salvation possible?

If you have decided to accept God’s offer of salvation from sin by accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, today can be your day of salvation and adoption as a child of the Lord God.

What has He commanded us to do if we are to accept His gift of salvation?

Admit you are a sinner in need of saving

All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.”
– Psalm 14:3 NIV

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
– Romans 3:23 NIV

Understand God has provided a remedy

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”
– Romans 6:23 NIV

“Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”
– John 17:3 NIV

Ask for forgiveness of your sins

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.”
– 1 John 1:9-10 NIV

Accept God’s free gift of salvation now

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”
– Romans 10:9-10 NIV

If you want to accept the Lord God’s gift of salvation right now, you can simply say a prayer like this — remember it is not the words themselves, but your heart the Lord God sees and hears.

Lord Jesus, I know I need you. I know I am a sinner in need of forgiveness and cleansing.

Thank you for dying on the cross for the forgivenss of my sins, paying a debt You did not owe because I owed a debt I could not pay.

Today, this moment, I ask you to come into my life and I choose you as my Savior and my Lord.

Thank you for giving me eternal life.

Take me and make me the kind of person you want me to be.

I love you, Lord, with all I am.
